Engineering students face many challenges as they move from the world of student to the world of practicing engineer. Who will I work for? What will I do? Will I know what to do when I get a job? What skills do I need? What will my colleagues be like? What about competition for engineering jobs?
As engineering educators these, and many more, are our challenges too. Is it necessary to transform engineering education to meet the needs of our students and of industry? What are the necessary changes? How can they be realistically implemented?
These exciting opportunities and challenges suggest the following topics:
Curriculum change
Multidisciplinary education
Promoting STEM education in elementary and secondary schools
Educating STEM educators
Outreach program for elementary and secondary students and educators
Co-op, intern and other industry interface programs
Industry internship programs for STEM educators
Service learning
Project Lead the Way and other similar initiatives
Rube Goldberg competition
FirstRobotics program
Facility transformation
While abstracts on these topics are encouraged, abstracts on any aspect of engineering education are welcome. Abstracts for faculty-guided student presentations on student educational experiences are also encouraged.
