Solar Energy Society
The Marquette University Solar Energy Society is a group of students interested in the use and development of solar energy for solving transportation, energy and economic problems. All Marquette students are welcome to join; you do not have to be an engineering major.
Our main activity is building and competitively racing solar powered boats. Students are responsible for the complete design, development and construction of the boat and all of its components.
The team has taken part in races throughout the United States and the world, including Japan and Australia. Our main event is SOLAR SPLASH, a competition featuring universities and high schools from around the world. Marquette has competed in this event every year since its inception in 1994 and placed 2nd overall in 2001 and 2002.
In addition to building and racing solar boats, the Marquette Solar Energy Society is also interested in developing awareness and promoting the use of solar energy collection devices such as:
- Photovoltaic Cells
- Concentrating Collectors
- Solar Ponds
- Wind Power
