Learning to operate a machine tool is a little like driving a car. You can
learn the basics fairly quickly but it takes years to master the skill.
We expect all students to take an active role in learning how to operate
each tool in a safe and effective manner. We expect you to know something
about the tool BEFORE you enter the shop. The internet provides a great
resource for learning. Use it. This is one layer of risk
We provide professional supervision with many years of experience and training.
The Staff of DLC Labs gives hands on instruction to all students on basic
hazard awareness for each machine tool. We expect you to come to training
knowing something about each tool. This is the next layer of risk
Training DLC Labs
only provides shop training in the fall
semester. If you are a new graduate student or a returning CoOp
student in the spring, please speak with Mr. Silman for special
DLC Labs follows
Marquette University policy for e-mails when communicating with
students. We use the eMarq calendar to set appointments. Prior to requesting
training, please update your calendar - DO NOT SHARE IT.
eMarq will show when you have time available for an appointment.
There are three
levels of certification.
Basic Shop - Allows access to machine shop DL167 and minor tool loan
Advanced Shop (PreReq: Basic Shop) - Allows access to
extended access and tool loan Advanced CNC
(PreReq: Advanced Shop) - Allows use of the CNC machine tools
