Dr. James Spalding's information: The Importance of Clinical and Economic Outcomes in Biomedical Technology Assessment
Bio: Dr. Spalding is the Director of Health Economics for GE
Healthcare. He focuses on providing economic and outcomes research
direction in the areas of Healthcare Systems, Medical Diagnostics, and
Healthcare IT. His responsibilities include identifying
opportunities and leading the development and execution of health
economics strategy in order to assess and demonstrate the value of GE
Healthcare's products.
Previous to joining GE Healthcare, Dr. Spalding spent seven years in
various health economic leadership roles within the pharmaceutical
industry at Allergan Inc., TAP Pharmaceuticals, and Astellas Pharma.
He obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of
California, San Francisco, M.S. in Health Economics & Policy from the
University of Southern California, and an M.S. in Computer Information
Systems from Northwestern University.

Pat Virtue is a software engineer in GE Healthcare's
Clinical Software
Engineering (CSE) team. He is currently researching medical
image
segmentation and analysis technology for advanced applications in
orthopedics, neurology, and radiation therapy. Pat's research
includes
algorithm development, medical application prototyping, and working with
clinical research partners to validate new technology.
Bio: Pat graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2002
with a B.S.
degree in Computer Science Engineering. He then joined GE Healthcare
in
Waukesha, WI as part of the Edison Engineering Development Program.
Prior to his current CSE research role, Pat had various engineering and
research assignments working on wireless EKG antenna system design, 2D
and 3D computer graphics, and visualization applications for MR, CT,
PET, and surgical navigation.

Dr. Saqib Masroor, MD, MHS, FACC will present on Robotic Cardiac Surgery to describe and explain the functioning of the robotic telemanipulation system and how it has helped perform complex tasks inside the chest through small ports allowing surgeons to perform coronary artery bypass, mitral valve repair etc.
Bio: Saqib Masroor, MD, MHS, FACC graduated from King Edward Medical College, Lahore, Pakistan and did MHS (Immunology) from the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health. He Completed his general surgery training at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit and his Cardiothoracic surgery Fellowship at University of Miami. He obtained an additional one year fellowship in Robotic and Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery at East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine and is currently the Chief of Robotic Cardiac Surgery at Froedtert and Medical College of Wisconsin. his special interests include Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery, Mitral Valve repair, treatment of AF and Development of New Techniques and Technology. He has published many papers in peer-reviewed journals and is a reviewer for many leading journals such as Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Journal of American College of Cardiology, Heart Rhythm, Innovations etc.

Dr. Kenneth Jacobsohn: Robotic surgery for prostate, kidney, and bladder cancers
Dr. Kenneth Jacobsohn will address the role of robotic surgery in treating benign and malignant urologic diseases. His presentation will focus on the impact that the technology makes on both the technical aspects of surgery as well as patient outcomes.
Bio: Dr. Kenneth Jacobsohn is currently the director of minimally invasive urologic surgery and an assistant professor of urology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed fellowship training in minimally invasive urologic oncology at City of Hope in Duarte, CA. A native of Wisconsin, he obtained his undergraduate degree from UW-Madison and went to medical school at Medical College of Wisconsin. Clinically, his interests are in prostate, kidney and bladder cancers, and robotic surgery.
| The Great Lakes Biomedical Conference will be held at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) in Milwaukee, WI. The theme of this year's conference is Advances in Robotic Surgery, and there will be a range of related discussions, including a postersession and prizes as well as cutting edge talks. |
