• Located in our Robotics Laboratory is our custom made leg robot system. This bilateral motorized leg robot is equipped with six load cells to record torque around the hips, knees, and ankles during movement. This system was developed to measure spinal reflexes during hip movements in people who have a spinal cord injury, but has since been adapted for other projects as well. Included with the robotic system are two attachments, one which allows for both hip and knee movements that can more closely mimic the phasing of walking and the other, which can perturb the ankle during hip motion during a pneumatic controller. The robotic system is coupled with a 16 channel electromyography (EMG) system (Bortec Biomedical Ltd), motorized tendon tapper to induce reflexes, and vibration system for sensory augmentation. Finally, this laboratory space also houses our electronics workshop for construction and modification of many custom made electrical devices used around the lab. We encourage you to take some time to learn about our ongoing projects below.
