Research Focus

The Mayer Lab Group in the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering at Marquette University is directed by Assistant Professor Brooke Mayer, Ph.D., P.E. The group focuses on the design and assessment of more sustainable water and wastewater treatment technologies that are able to simultaneously mitigate the risks posed by microbial and chemical contaminants.

Specific Research Foci
  • Removal and disinfection of emerging microbial pathogens

  • Detection and quantification of infectious waterborne viruses

  • Advanced physicochemical coagulation processes

  • Mitigation of disinfection byproduct formation

  • Advanced oxidation processes targeting simultaneous destruction of microbial and chemical contaminants

  • Nutrient recovery
