Neuromotor Control Laboratory (NMCL)

OVERVIEW

The mission of the Neuromotor Control Laboratory is to develop an understanding of how the human nervous system uses information from its senses to improve motor function in both unimpaired and injured subject populations. One emphasis of study is on the mechanisms of learning and relearning of arm movements. It is hoped that such knowledge will lead to optimized therapeutic interventions and new quantification technologies for patients suffering brain injury such as stroke.

SPECIFIC RESEARCH INTERESTS

-         Sensory contributions to motor adaptation of arm movements

-         Sensory contributions to motor adaptation of hand movements

-         Identifying the neural structures representing the “internal model” of the limb’s dynamics.
