Overview

One of the fundamental goals of Engineers Without Borders is to partner with developing or disadvantaged communites to improve their quality of life through the implementation of sustainable engineering projects. In accepting these projects, chapters commit to the community, not just for the duration of the project but for many years to come. Dominican Republic

Los Toros is a village located in the moutainous region of the Dominican Republic, approximately 25 miles from the next major citry and roughly 3 hours east of the Hatian border. Access to education and healthcare has increased, but access to safe, relaible drinking water is still an area of concern for the community. Many cannot afford to purchase purified water, which can cost up to 15% of annual income. EWB is assesing their current water system and is seeking to find better ways to filter their water.
