Marquette’s chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers has a lot of reasons to be proud. A recruitment push in the past two years built the chapter into a 45-member powerhouse. The chapter’s commitment to give back to the community by mentoring younger students resulted in establishing Marquette’s first NSBE Jr. chapter, with Milwaukee Academy of Science middle school students. And in November the Marquette group earned the “Most Distinguished Chapter of the Semester” award at NSBE’s "Fall Regional Conference" fall conference.
"We've been grindin'," said Jamon Lewis, president of the Marquette NSBE chapter and a senior in the College of Engineering. "We work extremely hard just to make it to these conferences and have a big impact within our community and the society."
Receiving this award meant a lot to the chapter because it was one of the most prestigious awards given at the conference, said Jamon Lewis, president of the Marquette NSBE chapter and a senior in the College of Engineering. Lewis said the award came as a surprise to the group because it was not one of its original goals. >>more
